Whatever it may lack in glamour, the steam cleaning market is making up for in potential. It's one of the fastest growing sectors of the floorcare market--albeit growing from a small start. Its growth is testament to the abilities of the companies involved in the market to educate customers on the benefits of a technology that may be unfamiliar to them.

As a result of this, the steam cleaning market has enjoyed a measure of success over the past few months. Gemma Chappell, product group manager for floorcare at Morphy Richards, comments on the benefits of a worthwhile education.

Yes, you can use steam cleaners for cleaning carpets and certainly, they are great for spot stains on carpets, but is a customer purely wants to clean carpets, they would be better off with a three-in-one shampoo vacuum. Retailers need to take time to explain to customers that the most important benefit of steam cleaning is the ability to reach 120 degrees Centigrade, which effectively sanitises surfaces as well as removing hidden dirt, including bacteria, dust mites and pet allergens, which cause so many problems and incidences of illness in the home"
